Chiropractic Coaching: Why Expectations Are Killing Your Practice

Today, I want to discuss why expectations are killing your practice. So please listen and learn from this week’s Thrive in Five, because the information will surprise you and transform your practice. I’m Dr. Bob Hoffman for The Masters Circle Global, where everything Legends are made and legendary practices are built through chiropractic coaching.

You may not realize it or even think about it, but every new patient that makes an appointment to see you has expectations. What may also surprise you is that their expectations and your expectations are rarely the same or even on the same page. Here is a key if you’re serious about growing your practice, influencing your patients, or producing the miracles that chiropractic is famous for.

If you don’t change the patient’s expectations on day one, they will definitely stop following your recommendations and stop care altogether. The only question is, when will that happen? If you don’t change their expectations, it’s a matter of time before they quit care. Even if you’ve mastered the art of overcoming objections, they may stay a few extra visits, but still leaving and still quitting care.

Building lifetime patients is all about changing expectations. So let me share with you how to change their expectations on day one and keep your patients returning and stop them from dropping out of care altogether. New patients expect to get results. They expect you to resolve their pain. The reason they didn’t get better from other doctors is because they assume the doctor would solve their problem or their pain for them and meet their expectations and either they did and the patient quit care happily or more likely the patient didn’t, the doctor didn’t meet their expectations and they quit care unhappy.

If you want patients to stay and become lifetime patients, you have no choice but to change their expectations on day one, because pain is not the problem. Pain is just an indication that they have a problem, and what they have is a functional problem. People who are functioning a hundred percent don’t have pain or symptoms.

The good news is. You’re a functional expert. Please remember that symptoms are the last thing that shows up in the disease process. And the first thing that goes away in the healing process and helping your patients to get out of pain, just gets them back to neutral. They’re pain free. But they’re still not functioning well, healthy, or even better.

Prior to coming to your office on day one, when they filled out your case history, they also need to complete the Functional Health Management score. The Functional Health Management score works like a miracle to transform them from pain to understanding that they have a functional problem. Your case history is about their past, but the functional health management score is about their future when they complete the simple, easy online functional health management score, they will finally understand for the first time that they have a functional problem.

And in that moment. It changes their expectation. In addition, their new expectation will make them realize that you’re a functional expert and you will help them become more functional and people who are a hundred percent functional don’t have pain. This has evolved and transformed the three phases of care to the feel better phase.

Followed by the function better phase and culminating in the live better phase. Now your patients realize that they have a functional problem and that they found a functional expert, you. You’ve changed their expectation and then met or exceeded that new expectation. All from the functional health management score and it allowed them to become an active participant in their ongoing care as they become more and more functional.

Once you change their expectation, they don’t drop out of care and you’ve given them an important reason and an important understanding and expectation to continue with care. You know, I often say that one of the most important characteristic traits in life is to be coachable, to be okay with someone helping you to make right decisions, guiding you on what to focus on to grow your practice and your profitability, and how to effectively understand what blocks your growth and success to make your blind spots that hold you back more visible and what you can do to overcome these blind spots.

And as I’ve said in the past, you must be willing to let go of the past to embrace the present and prepare for the future. When you wake up to what’s possible and recommit to your dream, becoming the best version of yourself and adapting to the changing times, restoring your energy, your certainty and your commitment, you will recession proof and future proof.

Proof your practice once and for all. And finally, understand why your patient’s current expectations are killing your practice. And yet how easy it is to change their expectations on day one. The functional health management score is your first step to changing your new patient’s expectations, working like a miracle.

to transform the practice for you once and for all, and finally in truly connecting to other people by mastering how to connect with their emotional brain and giving them the right expectations and the right reasons to become a lifetime patient who chooses continued care in your office. The functional health management score will also make the lifestyle changes your patients are facing visible to them and to you.

Your case history on a new patient again is about their past, but the functional health management score is about their future, and the functional health management score is as important or even more important than your case history if you’re a serious player who wants to make a dent in the game. In the universe.
