Chiropractic Practice: Setting Goals for the Second Half

Hello everybody and welcome to Thrive in Five. I’m Dr. Dennis Perman and I’ll be your chiropractic coach for today. Today’s subject matter is setting goals for the second half. Now this title makes a few assumptions right up front. Number one, that you set goals. Second, that you have set goals for the first half, and now it makes sense for you to consider setting goals for the second half. But if none of those things are true yet, don’t worry about it. While the best day to set goals for the new year is October 1st of the year before the second best day is today. So we’re gonna talk a little bit about setting goals for the second half, and no matter where you are in the process, not to worry now, first I wanna quickly run through the idea of the different goal setting categories that you would need to choose and assign goals to.

First is your purpose, your statement of purpose. And that of course, uh, is a statement that you make that says, I plan to be something and do something for me. My purpose is to be happy and help others be happy through positive learning experiences, good health and entertainment. Now, those of you who know me probably think, yeah, that sounds about right. You want that to be true about your statement of purpose as well, that it’s a good fit for who you are and what you’re doing. Now, the remainder of the goals are your personal goals. That’s, I read this much, I exercise this much, I eat this way, etc, your professional goals. And that of course has to do with your office. I see this number of new patients, I uh, see this number of office visits. I make this amount of money. Then you have people, goals.

Those are your goals in relationship. My intention is to do this in relationship with this person and that in this relationship with that person, next are your prosperity goals. And that has also to do with money, but it, it has to do with accumulation of money as well. So you would say, I plan to save this amount, I plan to invest this amount, et cetera. And then finally, your play goals. Nobody has to train you on these, probably this is your vacations and your creature comforts and your toys, et cetera. Now, it doesn’t take any more than about 10 or 15 minutes to write up these goals, but then it’s important for you to have them in a form that you can actually do something with them. So what I like to do is I like to set up the game so that I have numerous checkpoints along the way. Nobody keeps their goals top of mind all the time, and everybody thinks of them sometimes. I mean, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. So the key is to have your goals as top of mind as is

For you. You know, your style. For me, I like to check in on my goals. I write them October 1st. I like to check in on them on Thanksgiving Eve because for me, that’s the time of maximum gratitude. And I feel like gratitude and goals are closely related. And then finally, I look in on them on New Year’s Eve and that’s when I finalize them for the coming year. Now at midyear, I like to double check and make sure that first I haven’t overlooked or eliminated anything inadvertently. And second, that the goals that I set in the first half are still relevant and appropriate in the second half. I mean, let’s face it, sometimes you outperform your expectations. Sometimes you nail your expectations and sometimes you even underperform your expectations. Well, for resetting goals for the second half, if you have performed admirably as expected, then chances are you’ll want to stay the course.

Or if anything, increase the goals a little bit. If you’ve outperformed yourself well, depending on your lifestyle, you may wanna wind back a little bit cuz you know you’re way ahead or you wanna press harder because you see if you can achieve at a higher level that it’s worthy for you to do so. And obviously, if you’ve underperformed your expectations, well either you get to reset your expectations at a lower level or better double your effort, move faster, work harder, pay more attention, make a bigger splash, make a bigger difference. And you might be able to not only catch up on your goals for the second half, but surpass them. Now, it’s really important that you understand goals in the grand context of things. And one of the goals I think it would be great for you to set would be to attend our SuperConference in Atlanta.

That’s October 5th-7th of this year. The concept of the event is future focus. It’s learning to understand how you need to focus on your future in order to be able to have the very best present and also set yourself up for the greatest accomplishments that do the most good, have the most impact, and also offer you the the greatest possible return. So one of the goals that might be appropriate for you to set for this coming, uh, for this, this second half is to go ahead and you are gonna see a QR code in the corner. What I want you to do is go ahead and scan that QR code with your phone, with your, with your camera, and it will take you right to the landing page so that you can learn more about this wonderful event. We have amazing speakers coming in. We have an incredible opportunity for you to learn and grow. Now go ahead and take a picture of that, uh, QR code in the corner that’s gonna give you everything that you need
